Today’s session promises to be different from all of our other teleseminars.  It we be more spiritual, more experiential and will turn our concept of time upside down.  Get ready for a paradigm shift.

It’s vital to have the right tools for time management and productivity AND it’s important to shake up our perceptions once in a while.  The interview with Genpo Rochi is gonna be of the shaking kind…

Overcoming Procrastination with Dr. Neil Fiore

October 29th, 2008 by Bill Baren

The first “Aha” moment I had in reading Dr. Neil Fiore’s “The Now Habit” was that procrastination is an emotional issue.  What makes things worse, is that procrasination compounds itself because it also causes anxiety, frustration, stress, anger and feelings of helplessness. So we get into a never ending loop of not doing what we want to be doing and then feeling bad about, which makes it hard to start doing.

How do we put a stop to all of this?

I wanted you to hear the answer to this important question from THE Expert on the subject, Neil Fiore.

Neil is a widely acknowledged psychologist, lecturer, and author in the field of optimal performance and personal productivity. His bestselling book “The Now Habit: A Strategic Program for Overcoming Procrastination” has given me some excellent insight into the causes of procrastination - and the cures.

In studying Neil’s work, I learned a lot about myself and have already practiced many of the tools with my clients.  I now know why I used to put off certain things, until the pressure was strong enough for me to do something about it.

What I really appreciate about Neil’s approach is that he doesn’t see the cause of procrastination as a defect in your character. Neil’s approach is positive and allows you to not have to be so hard on yourself.  Once you understand WHY your procrastinating on certain things you increase your ability to actually DO something about it.

I’m looking forward to introducing you to Dr. Neil Fiore.

Peak Performance with Dr. Jim Loehr

October 27th, 2008 by Bill Baren

When we were putting together the line-up for the Telesummit, I wanted to make sure that we approached time management from many different perspectives.  So I was delighted to hear that Jim Loehr was joining us.  When I read his book, The Power of Full Engagement, I was immediately taken with the notion that enegy, not time is the key to high performance and personal renewal.

It makes total sense that time and energy are completely related.  It’s not how much time we spend on what we are doing, but how much energy we bring to the acitivity is the secret to a successful and fulfilling life.  I love the notion of creating peak performance in our business and life.

Jim Loehr lets us know how to access our key sources of energy, how to balance our energy expenditures and the importance of creating specific, positive energy management rituals.

In his book Jim makes a point that really hit me - the amount of time you have available in a day is fixed but, how much energy we exert in our work and free time is totally up to us.  We just have to learn to manage it effectively in order to make the most of the day itself.  It is such a simple concept but I found it quite profound.

Dr. Jim Loehr is a world-renowned performance psychologist and many of his clients include famous athletes such as golfer Mark O’Meara and Olympic gold medal speed skater Dan Jansen as well as professionals in law enforcement and Fortune 100 executives. We may not be hardened athletes or stealth FBI agents but, if we could use their tactics for success think of how much you could get done and how great you’ll feel? If Jim can help those people harness and manage their energy then he definitely has some tools you’ll want to hear about.

What Is Your Biggest Time Management Challenge?

September 30th, 2008 by Bill Baren

“You can’t always get what you want.”  I love this song by the Stones, but I do want to add one element to the lyrics.  “You can’t always get what you want, unless you know what you want.”

Knowing what I want and knowing where I can push my edge to become better at something is the secret sauce in my life.  And that’s exactly the formula I have followed to have a better relationship with time and it’s what lead me to organize the Time Experts Telesummit.

So I invite you to take one minute to describe a frustration or challenge you have with managing your time and being productive.  This will allow you to know what you want to get better at and it will allow me to insure that we address this challenge during the Time Expert Telesummit and on this blog.

Just enter your thoughts into the comment form below. I’ll be doing the same.

Thank you for your “time.”

Confessing My Time Management Sins

September 29th, 2008 by Bill Baren

I have to make a confession…

Most of the people in my life have thought that I was successful. I had a full coaching practice. I had successful associate coaches. My workshops have done well. So what’s the problem?

Yet, I had this nagging feeling of something holding me back from moving to the next level and being of even more of service to my clients.

It finally hit me - I had major issues with time management and being productive.

I often procrastinated. I would do the least important thing first. I was addicted to checking email. I kept having more and more things to do, and was struggling to keep up.

Dealing with my productivity issues

It dawned on me - I have to deal with this. So I spent the next 6 months researching what the world’s greatest gurus on time, productivity, procrastination and work-life balance had to teach on these topics. I wasn’t just learning, I was implementing and getting the best practices of all the top time experts into my bones. I figured out what worked the best and what didn’t.

Things finally began to shift for me. I became more focused and I became more productive. I no longer procrastinated and I went to sleep every day knowing that I spent time doing the most important thing for that day.

It’s a great feeling!

In fact, I was able to launch a new company, expand my staff and start organizing the Time Experts Telesummit (more on that below). My world expanded and I began to feel more alive than at any other time in my life.

Clients join the fray!

Then I began to implement these practices with my clients, because in my research, I found that time management and productivity was the #1 challenge for my clients too.

And surprise!  I noticed that their productivity was quickly shifting, too. One client’s business revenue grew by 25% in just a few months. One client decided that by implementing just 1 or 2 of the best time management practices in his business, he can actually take Fridays off and feel good about. And other clients had major time management breakthroughs.

So I couldn’t wait and sit on the sidelines anymore. I saw the opportunity to share this knowledge with the world. And I wanted to do it in a BIG way. So the Time Experts Telesummit was born.

Taking it out to the world

I couldn’t have imagined a few months ago that I would be organizing an online event that will draw thousands of people. I couldn’t have imagined being in conversation with the likes of Philip Zimbardo, Stewart Friedman, Genpo Roshi and Marcia Weider about how we can have a better relationship with time. It’s incredibly exciting.

I have never been more proud of an event in my life (and I used to be in the event planning business). I know that this is the ticket to help you be more productive, less stressed and more alive. So I urge you to participate. And I ask you to let all your friends know about it.

Please register now, as the free teleseminars will definitely fill up (we have a limited number of spaces). I can’t wait to “see” you at the Time Experts Telesummit!
